How is net salary calculated in Tanzania?
In Tanzania, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (NSSF (National Social Security Fund)) and income tax (PAYE (Income Tax, TRA) 2024) from the annual gross salary.
PAYE (Income Tax, TRA) 2024 uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 0 % for the lowest incomes to 30 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
NSSF (National Social Security Fund) contributions amount to approximately 10 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in Tanzania.
This calculator uses official data from Tanzania Revenue Authority (tra.go.tz) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
The first TZS 3,240,000/year is exempt. The employee contributes 10% to the NSSF (pension); the employer also contributes 10%. The NSSF rate was raised from 5% to 10% under the Social Security Laws (Amendments) Act of 2018.
