How is net salary calculated in Mozambique?
In Mozambique, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (INSS (National Social Security Institute)) and income tax (IRPS (Personal Income Tax) 2024) from the annual gross salary.
IRPS (Personal Income Tax) 2024 uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 0 % for the lowest incomes to 32 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
INSS (National Social Security Institute) contributions amount to approximately 3 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in Mozambique.
This calculator uses official data from Mozambique Tax Authority (at.gov.mz) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
The first MZN 42,000/year is exempt. The employee contributes 3% to the INSS (pension and social benefits); the employer adds 4%. The Mozambican metical (MZN) was redenominated in 2006 (1 MZN = 1,000 old meticais).
