How is net salary calculated in Indonesia?
In Indonesia, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan + Kesehatan) and income tax (PPh 21 (Personal Income Tax) 2023) from the annual gross salary.
PPh 21 (Personal Income Tax) 2023 uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 5 % for the lowest incomes to 35 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan + Kesehatan contributions amount to approximately 4 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in Indonesia.
This calculator uses official data from Directorate General of Taxes Indonesia (pajak.go.id) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
Employee contributions: JHT old-age insurance (2%), JP pension (1%) and BPJS Kesehatan health (1%). The PTKP (non-taxable allowance) is Rp 54,000,000/year for single taxpayers. SS contributions reduce the taxable base.
