How is net salary calculated in Iraq?
In Iraq, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (SSOC (Social Security)) and income tax (Personal Income Tax (Law No. 113/1982)) from the annual gross salary.
Personal Income Tax (Law No. 113/1982) uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 3 % for the lowest incomes to 15 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
SSOC (Social Security) contributions amount to approximately 5 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in Iraq.
This calculator uses official data from General Tax Authority Iraq (mof.gov.iq) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
Tax brackets are based on Law 113 of 1982 (as amended). The tax-exempt threshold is IQD 1,000,000/year. The employee contributes 5% to the SSOC (social security); the employer adds 12%. Official brackets have not been frequently updated since the tax reform.
