How is net salary calculated in Eritrea?
In Eritrea, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (PNSS (Private Sector Social Security)) and income tax (Employment Income Tax (EIRA)) from the annual gross salary.
Employment Income Tax (EIRA) uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 0 % for the lowest incomes to 22 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
PNSS (Private Sector Social Security) contributions amount to approximately 2 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in Eritrea.
This calculator uses official data from Eritrean Tax Authority (mof.gov.er) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
The first ERN 24,000/year is exempt. The employee contributes 2% to the PNSS (private-sector pension). The employer adds 10%. The Eritrean nakfa (ERN) has an official fixed rate, though divergences with the informal market exist.
