How is net salary calculated in India?
In India, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (EPF (Provident Fund) + ESI) and income tax (Income tax (new regime 2024-25)) from the annual gross salary.
Income tax (new regime 2024-25) uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 0 % for the lowest incomes to 31,2 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
EPF (Provident Fund) + ESI contributions amount to approximately 12,75 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in India.
This calculator uses official data from Income Tax Dept. India (incometax.gov.in) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
New tax regime (default from FY2024-25) with ₹75,000 standard deduction. Rates include 4% health & education cess. EPF (12%) is calculated on basic pay; ESI (0.75%) applies only if monthly salary ≤ ₹21,000. An old regime with more deductions also exists.
