How is net salary calculated in Malaysia?
In Malaysia, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (EPF + SOCSO + EIS) and income tax (Income tax (LHDN) 2024) from the annual gross salary.
Income tax (LHDN) 2024 uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 0 % for the lowest incomes to 30 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
EPF + SOCSO + EIS contributions amount to approximately 11,7 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in Malaysia.
This calculator uses official data from Inland Revenue Board Malaysia (hasil.gov.my) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
Employee contributes: EPF pension (11%), SOCSO social security (0.5%, capped) and EIS employment insurance (0.2%, capped). Basic personal relief is RM 9,000/year. EPF rates are reduced for employees over 60.
