How is net salary calculated in Laos?
In Laos, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (NSSF Laos) and income tax (Personal Income Tax (PIT)) from the annual gross salary.
Personal Income Tax (PIT) uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 0 % for the lowest incomes to 20 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
NSSF Laos contributions amount to approximately 5,5 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in Laos.
This calculator uses official data from Tax Dept. Lao PDR (taxdepartment.gov.la) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
Employee contributes 5.5% to NSSF (pension and health); employer adds 6%. The first LAK 1,200,000/month (LAK 14,400,000/year) is tax-exempt.
