How is net salary calculated in New Zealand?
In New Zealand, net salary is calculated by subtracting social security contributions (ACC Levy + KiwiSaver) and income tax (PAYE (Income Tax, IRD) 2024/25) from the annual gross salary.
PAYE (Income Tax, IRD) 2024/25 uses a progressive scale. Rates range from 10,5 % for the lowest incomes to 39 % for the highest. Only the portion of income that falls within each bracket is taxed at that rate, never the full salary.
ACC Levy + KiwiSaver contributions amount to approximately 4,6 % of gross salary, funding the pension, healthcare and other social benefits available to employees in New Zealand.
This calculator uses official data from Inland Revenue Department (ird.govt.nz) for 2026. Results are indicative; for exact calculations or specific situations (personal deductions, special regimes) consult a tax adviser or the country's tax authority.
New Zealand applies rates of 10.5%/17.5%/30%/33%/39% with no personal allowance. The ACC Levy (≈1.6%) covers accident insurance. KiwiSaver is a retirement savings scheme with a minimum 3% employee contribution (employer also contributes 3%); it is technically voluntary but widely adopted.
