Calculadora de Sueldo Neto 2026 (España)

How is net salary calculated in Spain?

Your net salary is what actually lands in your bank account each month. To arrive at it, two mandatory deductions are applied to your gross salary: Social Security contributions and income tax (IRPF) withholding. Both appear as line items on your payslip.

This calculator uses the rates in force in 2026 as published by the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) and Social Security. Results are indicative; the exact figure may vary by autonomous community, additional deductions and other personal factors.

Social Security: how much does the employee pay?

Contributions are calculated by applying a fixed percentage to the gross salary. In 2026, employees contribute across three items:

ItemPermanent contractTemporary contract
Common contingencies4.70 %4.70 %
Unemployment1.55 %1.60 %
Vocational training0.10 %0.10 %
Employee total6.35 %6.40 %

The employer pays an additional contribution (around 30 % of gross salary) which does not appear on your payslip but forms part of the total employment cost.

Income tax (IRPF) brackets in 2026

Income tax in Spain is progressive: the higher rate only applies to the portion of income within each bracket, never to the full amount. The 2026 national scale is:

Taxable baseMarginal rate
€0 — €12,45019 %
€12,450 — €20,20024 %
€20,200 — €35,20030 %
€35,200 — €60,00037 %
€60,000 — €300,00045 %
Over €300,00047 %

These are the national rates. Each autonomous community adds its own regional scale, so the actual effective rate may be slightly higher. For an exact figure, check your community's rates or consult a tax adviser.

Practical example: €30,000 gross annual salary

Frequently asked questions about net salary in Spain

How is net salary calculated in Spain?
Salaire net is obtained by subtracting Social Security contributions (approximately 6.35 % for permanent contracts) and income tax (IRPF) withholding from the gross salary. IRPF is progressive and varies with total income and the employee's family circumstances.
What percentage does Social Security deduct from the employee?
In 2026, employees on permanent contracts contribute 6.35 % of gross: common contingencies (4.70 %), unemployment (1.55 %) and vocational training (0.10 %). On temporary contracts unemployment rises to 1.60 %, giving a total of 6.40 %.
How does the IRPF bracket system work in 2026?
IRPF is a progressive tax. The 2026 national rates are: 19 % up to €12,450; 24 % from €12,450 to €20,200; 30 % from €20,200 to €35,200; 37 % from €35,200 to €60,000; 45 % from €60,000 to €300,000; 47 % above €300,000. The higher rate only applies to the relevant portion of income, never to the full amount.
What is the difference between 12 and 14 monthly payments?
The total annual salary is exactly the same. With 14 payments you receive 12 regular monthly salaries plus 2 bonuses (usually in June and December). With 12 payments the annual total is split into 12 equal instalments with the bonuses pro-rated in. The only difference is how the money is distributed across the year.
Does IRPF vary by autonomous community?
Yes. IRPF has a national component (used by this calculator) and a regional component that varies by autonomous community. This calculator provides an indicative estimate based on the national scale. For an exact figure, also check your community's rates or consult a tax adviser.
What is the personal and family minimum?
It is the portion of income exempt from taxation, considered necessary to cover the basic needs of the taxpayer and their family. In 2026 the general personal minimum is €5,550. With dependent children: +€2,400 for the first, +€2,700 for the second, +€4,000 for the third, +€4,500 for the fourth and beyond.
What is the difference between permanent and temporary contracts?
The only meaningful difference for the employee is the unemployment contribution rate: 1.55 % for permanent contracts vs 1.60 % for temporary ones — a difference of just 0.05 percentage points, equivalent to €15 per year on a €30,000 salary.
Can I reduce the IRPF withholding on my payslip?
Yes. You can inform your employer of changes in your personal circumstances using Form 145: having children, a non-working spouse, recognised disability, paying alimony, etc. These circumstances reduce the withholding rate applied on your payslip. You can also voluntarily request a higher rate to avoid a tax bill at year-end.
